Tis the Season

Today, I wake up with a happy heart.  The weeks ahead have always been the most exciting time of the year in my life – birthdays, Thanksgiving, family time, food you don’t get to eat any time, Christmas, Anniversary, New Year… and this year, awaiting the birth of our first born.  It is a busy…

C.E.L.E.B.R.A.T.E. E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G.

Here are two (2) important things you need to know this month: Everything in the Dominican Republic is extravagantly dramatic. November is my birth month. Let us begin with point 1.  One thing I love about the DR is how its society likes to celebrate so many holidays of their own, as well as adopt other…

Thoughts on the American Race…

Have you bought a house yet?  How many kids do you have?  Which fun and trendy toys, trinkets, or tools do you have?  What apple products do you own?  What kind of car do you drive? These are questions I hear all the time from people our age.  Not in those words exactly, but that’s…

Going “Sugar-Free”…… Not

Good morning! I was so proud of myself for buying “sugar-free” creamer yesterday, but after drinking my coffee with it today, I realize they took out the sugar but put in acetone or something.  That stuff is gross!  Returning it and reverting to my non-sugar-free ways. Aside from that creamer, life has been sweet lately….

The Lives We Used to Live

Osiris and I have been more and more intentional about building community and friendships with other couples.  We didn’t have friends during the summer.  I blame it on the 110 degree heat.  So now, we are reaching out to other couples we know, and throwing ourselves into new and socially awkward situations, as in joining…

Normal.

Good evening! I just wanted to post a quick update on the great Castillo adventure!  We are at a really cool place in life right now, a place we’d been waiting for for a long time. Life hasn’t really changed for the last 3 months.  Osiris has been working hard in his job, his supervisors…

This Moment :)

It’s Saturday morning.  I’m sitting in bed, with Osiris curled up next to me, and the sound of the ceiling fan spinning overhead.  There is a giant oak tree outside our window that makes a soothing “shhhhhh-“ing sound every time the wind blows.  I already had my cup of coffee, with a cinnamon stick and coconut…

What Makes Me Lose Sleep At Night

Today, was a dream come true for me! Four years ago, I started participating in Transform at The Village Church in Dallas.   Transform is a big back-to-school event open to the Webb Chapel/Northwest Highway community where I used to work.  Thousands of families show up on Transform Day and wait in line for hours…

Buying Groceries

Yesterday, we bought groceries.  We bought a TON of stuff – including baby stuff we found on clearance. We paid for our items and strolled out of the store.  As we pushed the cart to our car in 100 degree weather, I had flashbacks of the hundreds of times we grocery shopped in the Dominican….

This New Chapter……

Quick update from the Castillo Clan! Osiris went back to work last Monday and completed his official training courses in Fort Worth.  He had to drive back and forth in 100 degree weather with no A/C all week.  My tough guy!  He goes back to regular work this week, here in the hood.  So glad…

Osiris & Dallas!

Gracias a…
